After beginning playing American Football aged 13 at the Scunthorpe Steelers first ever Youth training session, Ty was brought through the youth system and then involved with senior kitted football until the sport's demise in the UK (or at least on Humberside) at the end of the 80's and early 90's.

A spell out of the game due to a very busy early career in the Army (with the exception of a brief period with the Sundevils) was finally brought to an end as a founder member of the Andover Thrashers. Flag football was used to gauge how new players had grasped the basics of gridiron and did much to resurrect a personal desire to play Flag football.

Ty was selected to the England squad and formed Team Voodoo on the back of a renewed interest in the sport and the reception to the idea of Flag football in the Andover area. Since injury finished an uneventful kitted career, Flag has proved to be the ideal outlet. Holds a Voodoo record with 6 interceptions in one tournament. Appointed as Assistant Coach to Team England in 2006
