Statement on Potential BAFA Affiliation
8th March 2006
Following recent speculation and the confusion on the senior flag forum surrounding the potential ESFL affiliation to BAFA, here is a statement from the league:
After a request from a ESFL member club (Leicester Eagles), the task of formulating a list of BAFA Terms and Conditions was initiated by your Committee on their first day following their being voted into office on February 6th.
Mails were sent to a BAFA representative on both 26th February and the 4th March asking questions concerning the requirements of a senior flag league affiliating to BAFA. After receiving the necessary replies from the BAFA representative, a document concerning the BAFA Terms and Conditions has been drawn up.
The Chairman has called a General Meeting for Sunday 19th March, and the BAFA Terms and Conditions document along with the agenda for the general meeting will be sent to all member clubs on Sunday 12th March
A proposal to amend the constitution has been requested by Matt Heasman. The proposal is to amend the wording of the constitution from:
4) Increase and widen participation of the sport of American football (in all its various formats), both within England and beyond. To promote and foster awareness of the sport of American football (in all it's various formats), both within England and beyond. Specifically to promote and nurture the sport of senior flag football, both within England and beyond
to
4) Increase and widen participation of the sport of American football (in the 5on5 and 7on7 non-contact formats only both recognised by BAFA, EFAF and IFAF), both within England and beyond. To promote and foster awareness of the sport of American football (in the 5on5 and 7on7 non-contact formats only both recognised by BAFA, EFAF and IFAF), both within England and beyond. Specifically to promote and nurture the sport of senior flag football, both within England and beyond
Subject to the constitution being amended then a subsequent vote to be held
"To ask the ESFL committee to seek membership of the BFFF, and thus ask the BFFF to initiate discussions with BAFA to affiliate both the BFFF and thus the ESFL under the BAFA umbrella "
It should be noted that the ESFL committee will be taking no decision on affiliating the ESFL to BAFA, it will be a decision for the ESFL full member clubs only.
