Fen Harriers 9man Challenge - Game Report

Another hard fought game between these two old rivals saw the Eagles come out on top by a twelve point margin. In contrast to the glorious sunshine that graced the previous encounter between the teams, this game was played in wet conditions making it difficult for either offensive unit to establish any control.

The home side broke the deadlock in the first half when QB Martin Brown hit Nick Moffat with a short pass which the Harriers receiver ran 50 yards through desperate Leicester tackling to open the scoring. Fen Harriers 6 Leicester Eagles 0.

Defences continued to dominate the half and a James Pimperton interception with time running down in the half gave Leicester a last scoring chance before halftime. With seconds remaining in the half, Eagles WR Craig Broughton grabbed a touchdown pass in traffic from QB John Pimperton to level the score. Rich Davis added two points with the kick to end the half at Fen Harriers 6 Leicester Eagles 8.

Harriers were forced to make changes at halftime, losing QB Brown and WR Moffat but with no effect on the intensity of their performance. Stand-in QB Doug Andrews posed problems for the Leicester defence with his speed, but the Eagles were able to hold the Harriers offence.

Leicester’s offence began to look menacing and they extended their lead with an Alistair Coulthurst TD run and a Rich Davis kick to make the score Harriers 6 Eagles 16. Eagles Rich Davis then made another big play to put the visitors clear when he picked off QB Andrews and returned the interception for a touchdown. Davis then added a further two points with the PAT kick to make the score Fen Harriers 6 Leicester Eagles.24.

Leicester free safety Jeff Brown also intercepted Andrews but the Harriers defence increased the pressure on the Leicester side and held the Eagles out. Harriers hit back with QB Andrews going 75 yards on a run play up the middle for a stunning touchdown to bring the home side back into the game but with time running out it was the final score to end the match Fen Harriers 12 Leicester Eagles 24
