Northern Knights Training Update
26th February 2004
Thankyou to the 15 or so who turned up to the first Northern Knights training session, held on Feb 22nd in Birmingham.
Temperatures that only residents of Chicago or Green Bay are familiar with were fought through for the three hours, and for those who are aiming to reprsesnt the North of England teams this was a chance to meet and run through the offensive playbook with colleagues.
Representatives from the Birmingham Raiders, Fen Harriers and Leicester Eagles, under normal circumstances bitter rivals, were seen working in unison as two groups went through a mixture of pass and run plays. Following a water break the second half of the training turned into a scrimmage with players rotating positions on offense and defense, and despite one minor injury the event was a success, and once people defrosted they can get ready for the second session in Leicester this Sunday.
Said head coach Lawrence Vos: "It was extremely encouraging to see players from different teams in the Midlands get together for a common cause, beating the South, and already people are clicking into place, especially the qb's and the wideouts." "The North v South Game is an opportunity to showcase the talent of UK 9 man flag-football, and whilst there will be some demand for skill positions, everyone who attends should get some game time."
The defensive session follows this weekend for the Knights and will be led by Tesh Patel from Team Extreme.
