BSFL Week 4 - Game Report28 July 2002
In a titanic defensive struggle, the Leicester Eagles defeated the Fen Harriers 10-8 at Coldham Common.
After a scoreless first half, the Eagles drove down to Fen goal line but staunch goal line defending from the Harriers's D saw the Eagles settling for a Craig Broughton field goal and a 3-0 lead to the Eagles. The Harriers offense failed to move the ball allowing Eagles QB John Pimperton to move the ball down field with RB Ryan Melbourne taking a Pimperton hand off 20 yards into the end-zone for a 9-0 lead. Craig Broughton added the point after touchdown making it 10-0. Fen struck back with a Martin Brown pass eluding Eagles DB Andy Gambrill and finding WR Nick Moffat for a TD. A Brown pass to Jeremy Humphries brought the score back to 10-8.
On the Eagles next drive a bizarre fumble recovery by David Parr gave the Fen offense the ball on the Leicester 30 yard line. Leicester's dominant pass rush lead by Rich Beet and Rich Manning forced Fen into a 4th and long situation and James Pimperton made the tackle which allowed the Eagles to run out the clock.
