Baldies take Scottish Senior Flag Tournament Win

3rd December 2001

After a summer that has seen numbers in flag football increase all over Scotland it was the turn of the seniors of the game to begin competitive action.Several players returned to the game after years away to compete in a challenge event in Dundee on Sunday.

The tournament saw Dundee Hurricannes, Edinburgh Wolves,Edinburghs Auld Pros, East Kilbride Baldies and host club Dundee Storm compete against each other. The group games saw all the teams play each other and there was really very little in some of the games, but the Wolves secured a spot in the final against the undefeated Baldies from East Kilbride. Although the teams were tiring after four successive games they put all their efforts into a competitive final.

Edinburgh, defeated by East Kilbride in a group game, were in determined mood and were holding the game at 12-12 until late in the game, but the Baldies scored with under two minutes left to secure the trophy with a 19-12 victory.

East Kilbride captain Graham Whyte was quoted as saying "his team were delighted with the competitive nature of the event but also delighted that there had been a fun element throughout the day and he was looking forward to similiar events throughout the country"
